Pulsating baselines, high energy visuals and soaring synths characterise this series of experimental video works by Belfast-based digital artist and musician Robin Price. Price’s work uses original film and found footage overlaid with computer generated effects to create multi-layered, hypnotic visuals that accompany his original electronic music.

Robin Price recently completed his PhD in composition and creative practice at the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), Queen’s University Belfast. Prior to arriving in Belfast he studied theoretical physics. He also has an avid interest in club music and visuals, which influence the creative aims and aesthetics of his work

Paula Guzzanti - iMove

‘iMove’ is an exploration of the sudden-movement-impulses responses to sounds coming from communication devices in the environment. The piece captures the improvisational interaction of three performers: a solo dancer, a visual media artist and musician, and a sonic artist, and it involves audience participation through the mediation of cell phones.

As the choreography and original music composition evolves and loops, the soundscape of improvisation created by the audience and sonic artist interaction starts to merge, proposing new dynamics of movement.

As the performance progresses audience members are encourage to text, ‘what’s up’, or skype to two phone numbers that are part of the sound installation setting of the piece. The sounds created by this interaction are picked up by mics and are transformed live by the sonic artist.

The performance will be followed by an artists’ talk on the creative and collaborative process ofusing movement and music composition improvisational practices.

The artists will invite audience members to participate in one of the creative tasks used in the process of making iMove. Participants will participate as movers, music improvisers, or writers.

Paula Guzzanti is a PhD candidate in the School of Creative Arts, QUB. She is an independent dance artist and movement specialist teacher. Her artistic interest are in site-specific performance, screen-based performance, devising and performance of children’s dance theatre work, and movement improvisation practices. Paula has received a Master in Letters by research from Trinity College Dublin (2009), a Higher National Diploma in Performing Arts from Belfast Met (2011). She is a trained dancer from the National School of Dance Buenos Aires.

Artists’ Moving Image Northern Ireland (AMINI) presents Olaf Breuning's Home trilogy. The three half-hour films, from 2004 - 2012, feature Brian Kerstetter as the anonymous protagonist in an odyssey of globe-trotting curiosity, awkwardness and alienation.

AMINI was founded in 2015 by artists Michael Hanna and Jacqueline Holt. AMINI hosts discussions and events to support and create opportunities for artists working with moving image in Northern Ireland as well as bring the best of international moving image work to Northern Ireland.
