The Memory of Yarn
Rachel Gomme: 10 November - 22 December 2012
Rachel Gomme is an established solo performance artist who works and exhibits internationally. Rachel’s current practice involves durational and cumulative work using knitting as a metaphor for time and memory. Recent international appearances have included performances and exhibitions in London, Poland, Austria, Canada, and ‘Knitting a Rothko’ in Houston, Texas.
A highlight of the show is the UK premier of ‘Knitting a Rothko’ where iconic art meets domestic craft in a durational performance and textile installation. Time, repetition and painstaking labour are woven together in a piece that is at once meditative and quietly humorous, serious and playful, visually arresting and intensely physical.
