With the artist Jane McCann coming from the edge of a beach with islands opposite, spanned by the beam of a lighthouse, óna, meaning from where or whence, represents an enduring source of design inspiration.

The colours and textures ingrained in Irish landscape provide an on-going source of reference for fabric selection and colour harmonies. Seascapes offer the patterns of the sand, pebbles, shells, rock pools, and the flotsam and jetsam left by the last tide.

Óna, as a design-led story, presents creative work that has evolved over time with the focus on clothing applications both in natural fibres as well the adoption of technical textile innovations.More recent opportunities have also involved the creation of linen and flax-based composite materials. Óna’s overarching theme is concerned with both individual and collaborative engagement in creating simple, non-transient and inclusive design outcomes.
